Pooh: "You don't spell it, you feel it."

Quote:I never had any large respect for good spelling. That is my feeling yet. Before the spelling-book came with its arbitrary forms, men unconsciously revealed shades of their characters and also added enlightening shades of expression to what they wrote by their spelling, and so it is possible that the spelling-book has been a doubtful benevolence to us. - Mark Twain cited at http://quoteinvestigator.com/2010/06/25/spelling/ But at least we shall all be treated to grandly revealing variant spellings of the third person singular pronoun until the kerfuffle over politically vs. anatomically/genetically correct is resolved. Perhaps it never will be... what fun! ![]()

However, sometimes spelling can make all the difference.
I would much rather have a sweet, crumby cookie for dessert than sweat in a crummy desert. I may be too demure to apply rouge, but I would demur to apply a rogue. I would be wealthy if I had a gilded cannon, but bored with a canon guild. Old vs. olde makes no real difference, neither does shop or shoppe. But confuse wretch with retch and you get a wicked mess.

If we're going to revolt against standardized spelling, might I also suggest revolting against standardized typeface?

i think if winnie screwed his syntax up here someone would point it out to him.

When I first heard his name, I said, just as you are going to say, "But I thought he was a boy?"
"So did I," said Christopher Robin. "Then you can't call him Winnie?" "I don't." "But you said------" "He's Winnie-ther-Pooh. Don't you know what 'ther' means?" "Ah, yes, now I do," I said quickly; and I hope you do too, because it is all the explanation you are going to get. Winnie-the-Pooh Chapter 1. ![]()

Damn... I just wrote a critique in which at one point I said "bare with me" instead of "bear with me". So instead of asking for a little bit patience and understanding I invited them to get naked with me. It has all been corrected now... I think...
