Poetry can be dangerous, especially beautiful poetry, because it gives the illusion of having had the experience without actually going through it.

It's hard to read with all the f words at the beginning, but I like the point you are making.

So I told him that he'd better shut his mouth
And do his job like a man
And he answered "Listen, father"

"I will never kill another"
He thinks he's better than his brother that died
What the hell does he think he's doing
To his father who brought him up right?

Take your place on the great Mandala
As it moves through your brief moment of time
Win or lose now, you must choose now
And if you lose you're only losing your life

Tell the jailer not to bother
With his meal of bread and water today
He is fasting til the killings over

Hes a martyr, he thinks hes a prophet
But hes a coward, hes just playing a game
He cant do it, he cant change it
Its been going on for ten thousand years

Take your place on the great Mandala
As it moves through your brief moment of time
Win or lose now, you must choose now
And if you lose you're only losing your life

Tell the people they are safe now
Hunger stopped him, he lies still in his cell
Death has gagged his accusations

We are free now, we can kill now
We can hate now, now we can end the world
Were not guilty, he was crazy
And its been going on for ten thousand years

Take your place on the great Mandala
As it moves through your brief moment of time
Win or lose now you must choose now
And if you lose you've only wasted your life

You find it hard to read "fuck" but "your children that we burned to death" is ok?

"Whoever the fuck wrote this shit needs a new pen." - Joseph Heller

P.S. But thanks for liking my point, no severe reparations required. Smile

At first I thought it was disrespectful that I immediately associated "your children that we burned to death" with the burger image -- and then I thought no, I can rationalise that. Each bite of shitty, heart-attack-causing food we take now is enabled by the blood and flesh of the dead -- for whom no day is sufficient, no empty flag-waving bullshit march for half an hour even comes close to marching through muddy trenches, climbing over the bodies of your mates, all for no fucking reason except to satisfy the greed of men who won't fight for themselves.
It could be worse

Honor might be keeping the whole system afloat, but for most this may be a day off work.

"Aboriginal infants plucked fresh from the teat,
when roasted with mama, their taste's hard to beat."

- Suomy Nona (Undoubtedly 'Old-School' Australian)

The metaphor's quite intentional, but it's a lesser one.

Restaurants around here offer free meals to vets on
vet-day. Vets (such as George and I) are 'served' with
special menus that offer low-priced items (meatloaf)
and exclude higher ones (steak).  This detail is not
lost on us plebeians. We expect, are used to, and would
be shocked to experience anything to the contrary.

BUT, luckily, there's one bar around here whose vet-day
ablutions include the offering of free beer. While this is
a terrible mistake (in SO many ways...), it provides us
with the false courage needed to accomplish our
traditional vet day food crawl.

As George says: "Thanks are shit, food is sincere."

P.S. Poems requiring explications such as this
are in need of a severe spanking.

"The red belt mommy, the one with the sharp blue sequins."

Happy Veterans Day, United States... War, Death, Napalm...

But no matter, George and I are getting free burgers and drunk tomorrow.

Im not sure why, but it makes me think about George Orwell. Its not bad.

Maybe you should watch your step. Don't get lost!"
