Quote:Scientists in Britain claim to have discovered why, when people have had a few drinks, the opposite sex appears far more attractive.

Apparently it's all to do with face symmetry - and people's ability to detect it after they've had a couple of drinks.

Researchers at London's Roehampton University asked more than 100 people to rate faces for attractiveness and symmetry.

Some did the test while drinking and others while having a non-alcoholic drink, Britain's Daily Mail newspaper reports.

Facial symmetry - where one half of the face is identical to the other - has long been linked to attractiveness.

The researchers found that those people drinking alcohol found it more difficult to determine if a face was symmetrical than those on the soft drinks.
Researcher Lewis Halsey told the Daily Mail: "People that had drink tended to be less good a noticing if a face was asymmetrical, they often saw it as being symmetrical when it was asymmetrical."

And the women drinkers were particularly bad at the task, the journal Addiction reports.

Dr Halsey told the Independent on Sunday: "What we have shown is that people's ability to detect symmetry is part of the explanation."

A Bristol University study found that people do appear more attractive to both sexes after they've had a drink.
But other research has found no difference in people's assessment of the opposite sex after drinking.

Sure, that's the reason Big Grin
are they trying to research the fun out of everything?
I think that's the idea. Though I would have volunteered to be part of the study.
I know quite a few people that would still be ugly as Hell even if both sides of their face did match . . .
Getting drunk for science? Sounds like a sweet deal. I expect they'll test an important hypothesis regarding marijuana next.

What intrigued me was the part where they said women were more prone to fall for the beer goggles effect. I always assumed it would be the guys, since that's the stereotype
so the fact they were completely wrecked played no part in it. the fact that drunks usually have their eyes closed doesn't help either. i always thought we lost our inhibitions when drunk, which in many cases means you'd have sex play with animals should they be willing, it was hard to tell with some of my partners Hysterical

We can only hope Beg
I guess that's the reason Germans drink so much beer, it adds more symmetry to their square heads!!

Nobody would have sex in Germany if it weren't for Oktoberfest.
can we take it that when blind people get drunk they don't feel the same way?
Funny you should say that billy, when i was a young sailor in the navy we used to use the term 'let's get blind' when we went on a binge and everything looked good! Cheers Big Grin
i guess blind has it's positives, everything would still feel the same
