it could in eastern bloc europe. in russia they'd allow the dance just so they could stone the offending couple to death.

can't these stupid people be taken to court?
can they not just leave people like that alone?they're not doing harm to anybody.what's the idea?are they afraid they'll infect 'normal' people with the dreaded gay disease?
yes,i can imagine,we have a bible belt in holland, don't know how it is now but when i was young, children there weren't allowed to play outside on sundays[aahh, they're kicking into us and them]or listening to the radio
I think the obvious answer is no. What a weasely thing to do.
well a lot of those bible belters in the u.s.came originally from holland and let's not forget those apartheid lunatics in s.africa

I think Benny may be afraid!
On a serious note I believe they were taken to court
but I don't have the details offhand sorry!
What right does anyone have to tell anybody
who they should love or date?
It is ridiculous for the states to say
we don't want you loving,marrying,fucking
someone of the same sex.
Butt the fuck out.
Get rid of the homophobes.

Personally I could care less. What I do think is that everyone has a right to life and freedom of their own choosing. A right to express themselves openly. Because your of a different lifestyle from the next guy, does that give you a right to condemn them for their belief's? Persomally I do not think so. So called homophobic's also have a right to their lifestyle free from death threats as well for what they believe. They are in my opinion nothing more than extreme right wing heteros. We have extreme everything in the world today from what I can see and the extreme homo's should not be allowed any more freedom than any other's. Like I said, I could care less but lest we forget that we all live in glass houses.
you can be extreme whatever you want in my opinion as long as you let anybody his own extreme if you get my drift, the problem arises from people who think they're right and the others wrong and act upon it
i can't believe i'm saying this but i think benny's right. for most things including this sort of thing we have two extremes. the homophobes as CB calls them and the heterophobes as i just called them. both extremes would cancel each other out you'd think, but you'd be wrong they both bolster each others arguments. they're the petrol to each others hatred.

they should both step back and see that everyone, homo and hetero are human beings with the right to love and go out with who they want to.

the school was petty and sexist. in my opinion it should be sued. having the same sex partner in the usa is not illegal. people should be allowed to come and go without let or hinderence. (is that in your bill of rights, or does it say not with the same sex?) so for me it did wrong. protests and rallies condemning heterosexuals because of it would be wrong. for me, this is one of those occasions where the gov has a chance to show that it's for all the people. the principle should at the very least lose their job. as should who ever decided not to allow the girl to the prom.
no wonder there's so much hatred towards gay people when the government allows this shit to happens.

In the UK, should anything like that happen it would be a huge scandal.

And as I read, you do get extremes in the data. The problem is, if you really believe in free speech you will hear things that you don't want to. And if you believe in unrestricted freedom, things will happen that you don't want to.

But if you start prohibiting things one side will always be unhappy. It's not so much of a problem when it's just opinions but when these spread and you get action that is the real problem.

In this case, we have 100% agreement that this is out of order. But if the school let it happen there could be alot of Mississippi parents not very happy (don't ask me why). And the taxpayer has his say. As so does the rector of the school. So for most of the American Bible Belt this does not differ from norm.

You need someone higher up to say "Nop, you are having that school dance". And if the school is this biased then how can you know that the pupils might not have been expelled. Cos they might be in the future.

I'm just sayin'

in truth. it's against the law for the school to stop a person from going the the prom with their partner of choice. the school circumvented the law by saying the kids had too much work to do and they could get the venue they wanted. that said i don't think it would be too hard to show that was just a sham.

Laws are easily bent.

Al Capone was a murderer and a mafioso. Everyone knew what he was, but they couldn't gather evidence on him. He was jailed to Alcatraz for not paying his taxes. Just shows how "when you have a will, you have a way" Confused.

i'd find something to sack the principle for and anyone else who was involved. it wouldn't be to hard to do.

maybe. thing is i'm not stopping him/her from being a bigot. i'm just not allowing it in a school or college. he openly closed down a party because someone was a lesbian. yeah, i'd lie to get rid of him.

Well if I was the parent of that Lesbian I would sue him. No need to lie.
