Due to a blockade by major financial institutions like Bank of America, VISA, MasterCard, PayPal and Western Union -- who refuse to process donations to Wikileaks -- donations have been cut down by 95%.

According to founder Julian Assange: "The blockade has cost the organization tens of millions of dollars of lost donations at a time of unprecedented costs resulting from publishing alliances in over 50 countries with over 90 media and human rights organizations." In its currents state, Wikileaks may be shutting its doors by the end of the year.

Assange says the organization will have to stop publishing leaks and focus its effort on solicitation and fighting the blockades.
something else is going on,publishing leaks doesn't cost any money, does it?sure they're gonna get him personally in the end to show you can't muck around with the big boys

Not much, if they'll just be releasing the documents via their website. According to Assange (as discussed in the article), there are apparently costs involved in the publishing arrangements they made with certain media organizations. Maybe in getting editors for the documents or something? Hardly worth millions of dollars though. Perhaps what's mainly eating up their budget are the costs of Assange's legal defense (against the rape charge and extradition).
Good riddance!
