roll the windows down
January gave an inch--
the kids are in shorts

Nicely done.  How well I remember Grand Forks and men grilling at 20F, wearing Bermuda shorts (a warm snap for that locality).  Minot, a bit worse - here's to the guy who verified that you can't grill steak at -20F, it freezes on the top before you can flip it.

You know I like the really short ones. This one paints a tidy picture.

A suggestion, though: 'outdoors' could easily be worked into that last line, and would harmonize with 'shorts'.
