A Thanksgiving Prayer - William S. Burroughs.

For John Dillinger
In hope he is still alive

Thanks for the wild turkey and the Passenger Pigeons,
destined to be shit out through wholesome American guts -

Thanks for a Continent to despoil and poison -

Thanks for Indians to provide a modicum of challenge and danger -

Thanks for vast herds of bison to kill and skin, leaving the carcass to rot -

Thanks for bounties on wolves and coyotes -

Thanks for the AMERICAN DREAM to vulgarize and falsify until the bare lies shine through -

Thanks for the KKK, for nigger-killing lawmen feeling their notches,
for decent church-going women with their mean, pinched, bitter, evil faces -

Thanks for "Kill a Queer for Christ" stickers -

Thanks for laboratory AIDS -

Thanks for Prohibition and the War Against Drugs -

Thanks for a country where nobody is allowed to mind his own business -

Thanks for a nation of finks -

Yes,

Thanks for all the memories... all right, let's see your arms...
You always were a headache and you always were a bore

Thanks for the last and greatest betrayal of the last and greatest of human dreams.

P.P.S. One of the IIce Station Zebra challenges plunges you deep into William S. Burroughs.

Oh look! Another self-hating liberal born before it was cool. Should have killed himself while he still had a chance. It's easy to be an angry cunt I guess. Too easy.
i think it´s easier to hate others than self.
The '50s had a rich counterculture. In the '60s, people made the mistake of trying to make it mainstream, that is, making it political. That's what's happening now, through technology and methods more sophisticated and far-reaching. A counterculture doesn't need politics, it doesn't need leaders.

Politicized God, politicized Jesus, politicized art; now we have drugs and technology, willfully misused out of the context of politics, and some music here and there to be lost in. We need drugs without a guru and music without fashion. There we have our own dangerous will, and our nice little communities if we can find them.

Hate takes no effort.

Hate takes no effort.

don´t know. i find it easy to hate ideas, things i can´t change, a "system" (and i write that ridiculous word for lack of a better one) .. hating individuals seems harder

here´s an example of a raging liberal born after it was cool

nope.
you´re right, hatred is easy esp. paired with righteousness and a negative attitude.

thanks for sauerkraut and the freedom to fart when no one else is near.
thanks for enough ignorance to believe in our excellence.
thanks for the atoms for peace, and that the leaking barrels aren´t buried in my vicinity.
thanks for better health insurance for the rich at equal price.
thanks for hypocrisy and the fuel to warm fugitives´ homes.
thanks for the ability to repress what we don´t forget.
thanks for envy and fear, the cement and cemetery of our society.
thanks for the freedom to disagree and express anger for the too young and the too old and any other citizen who is not worth being taken seriously.
thanks for a nation of hanger-ons and opportunists.

Loved Burroughs! Got the same video at my website.

Brilliant man. Wonder what he would have been like with no drugs?
