I get sick of reading the novice forum but I am not skilled enough to post critique in the serious critique forum. Are short but relevant posts of praise acceptable for the serious critique forum? I'd hate to ruin someone's poem by suggesting they follow my advice.

you can read any forum without giving feedback, if you post in one of the more serious feedback forums, we expect you to to try and give some honest feedback. we understand not everyone can do a line by line and accept shorter but honest feedback, post of praise may work if you give good reason but in general it's a workshop. point out why something doesn't work for you as well. i promise you, you'll not ruin anyone's poem. if you're still a little uncertain, practice on the mods poetry. say what works for you and why, say what doesn't work for you and why. we have thick skins. it isn't about being right it's about saying how the poem affects you.

That's billy whoring for comments again Wink Seriously, not a bad idea. We've been around long enough to take pretty much whatever is thrown at us.

We're not opposed to praise by any means -- just not empty, generic praise that could have been applied to any poem at all. All that we really ask is that your comments show you've read and thought about the poem. Everyone comments differently and we'd never suggest that critiques must follow a particular pattern or style any more than we'd expect poems to.
You have to start somewhere. In Serious, it is acceptable to say: I liked this and here's why it worked for me. Or I didn't like this and here's why. It doesn't matter how skilled of a writer you are. It doesn't matter if you feel the other person writes better than you. It's about your experience as a reader.
